L2 Media Session 1 - SETTING UP YOUR BLOGS

A blog is simply an online place where you can write things. I use it not only to present all the work you'll be doing for me this year, but also as a way of you doing your work. Blogs avoid you ending up with a heaving hard drive full of random word documents. You'll also be able to incorporate images and video into your work alot easier if you blog it.

Firstly we'll set up your blog. This will give you a feel for how to set a blog up, and also give you a crack at designing/laying out your blog. Follow these steps.

1. If you have a google account go straight to stage 2. If you don't have a google account get one by clicking HERE and going through the process. If you have problems setting this up, give us a shout and I'll give you a hand.

2. Once you've got a google account make sure you're logged into it and then go to blogger.com
This kind of screen should come up. Click on 'Create Your Blog'

3. Once you've clicked on 'Create Your Blog' you'll get a screen that looks like this

4. Give your blog a name. And make it interesting or at least unique to you. Personalise the name so that it gives a flavour of what your interests/passions are. All your posts on your blog will have different titles but your blog has one name that you should stick with so take some time giving it a name that you're happy with. Simply calling it 'My Blog' won't do! Think of favourite lines from movies, favourite lyrics, just anything that will be unique to you and you feel happy with.

5. Your blog will also need a web-address, the address people will type in when they want to read your blog. Think carefully about this as well, perhaps using the name of your blog. A strong name and address will get your blog more visitors and more people also staying and reading.

Once you've done all this, click on 'Create Blog'. You are now ready to start posting.

INTRODUCING MEDIA PRODUCTS AND AUDIENCES - WEEK 1 - THE COMPANY

The first post you're going to write on your media blog is actually part of one of the units we'll be working on until the  Spring Term. It's called 'Introducing Media Products And Audiences'. Basically in this unit  you'll be looking at a media company and one of the products they make and writing about all aspects of the product. The first criteria we can hit is about the company that makes your chosen product. Before you start researching/writing,  have a think about what media product you're going to want to write about. Bear in mind that you'll be analyzing all aspects of the meaning and production of this product so it's got to be a product you're into, that you don't mind rewatching/rereading/replaying. The product can be . . . A film/DVD/BlueRay A TV Show/Boxset A Radio Show or Radio Station. A Video Game (PC/Console) A magazine or newspaper. A website. I'm afraid that music (albums/CDs etc) count as MUSI

INTRODUCING MEDIA PRODUCTS AND AUDIENCES WEEK 2 - THE PRODUCT'S PURPOSE

What you should have so far  Details of a media company that make the product you're going to analyse, including a look at where they're based, what they make, a bit of their history and something about who their competitors are. This means you have already ticked off the 'company' criteria in Unit 1. What to add today Today we need to start actually analysing the PRODUCT made by the company you've written about - this will start addressing this next criteria. The first thing you have to talk about is the PURPOSE of your product. WHY was it made?  Today I want you to tell me about the PURPOSE of the product. Do the following tasks to complete this section. 1. Open up a new blogpost and call it 'Products & Audiences Learning Outcome 1:  The Purpose Of The Product'.  2. In the post, first off get an image of your product in there (the box/a screenshot) and tell me the basic production details such as release date(s), who stars in it
